Crack Sealing
Black Dawg’s premium rubberized crack sealer is heated to a liquid, at 400 degrees, and poured into structural cracks. The hot rubber is scraped out by hand and allowed to cool, sealing the crack and protecting it from water penetration and freeze/thaw damage. The specialized rubber remains pliable in harsh winter temperatures, resisting splitting and further degradation. There are no viable do-it-yourself options for high quality crack filler.
Repairs
Sealcoat and crackfillers protect, preserve and beautify; they do not repair or ‘fix’ significant problems. Isn’t all sealant the same? Shouldn’t I just go with the cheapest price?
Absolutely not! There is a very wide range of quality of sealant on the market today. There are completely different kinds of sealants, and many ways of preparing and applying the sealant. Will sealcoating save my beat up driveway?
Damaged and failing asphalt will not be ‘fixed’ by sealant. More extensive repairs may be needed. Asphalt sealants will not raise low areas, fill structural cracks, completely smooth out a rough surface, or completely mask surface texture differences and other imperfections.
How often should I sealcoat?
Sealcoating is a maintenance act and wear off technically starts on day 1. While you may need to mow your lawn weekly, you only need to sealcoat every 2-3 years to effectively protect your driveway. If you want that perfect look, it is OK to seal more often but this is not necessary for protection and preservation purposes.
How long will my new sealcoat last?
Black Dawg Sealcoat uses the toughest industrial grade sealant and crackfiller in the world. You will not find longer lasting products. However, the lifetime of any job is unique to the pre-existing condition and level of use of the asphalt. Factors that decrease the lifetime of the sealant include: degrading (crumbling) surface, high vehicle traffic, heavy-duty vehicles, overhead vegetation, harsh winter temperatures, scraping from snow removal, chemical spills, low spots that hold water, and more.
How long will the cracks remain fully sealed?
The longevity of the hot rubber crackfiller is mostly dependent on the size of the crack and the amount of shifting of your asphalt surface during freeze/thaw cycles. Because of this, there is no guaranty on how long the cracks will stay sealed. However, even when crackfiller splits, it is still protecting the crack.
